Three of our students from our prestigious citadel outperformed finalists from across the country to take the national title.

Dominican University Ibadan has been crowned overall winner of the 2026 CRMI University Risk Management Competition, organized by the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria (CRMI).

More than 10 universities enrolled for the competition. Four were shortlisted as finalists, including Dominican University, whose team progressed through the screening and review stages and emerged as the overall winner.

The University was represented by three students: Jessica Mmachukwu Offordum, Calistus Chibuikem Orafu and Jacinta Nwaamaka Nwachukwu.

Their proposal, titled “Cultivating Resilience: A Strategic Risk Management Framework for Nigeria’s Agriculture and Food Security System, 2026-2036,” examined the interconnected risks facing the country’s food security. These include rural insecurity, agricultural financing constraints, inadequate insurance, post-harvest losses and weaknesses in commodity markets.

The team delivered their live pitch on Wednesday, October 15, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. The team was announced the overall winner at the dinner organized by CRMI on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

As the overall winner, the University received a cash prize of ₦1,500,000  and received a golden first place award. The organizers also announced further benefits for the winning team:

●      Participation in the Spencer-RIMS University Challenge at the 2027 Risk World Conference in the United States, with all participants’ expenses paid

●      Mentorship opportunities for the University’s representatives

●      CRMI student membership opportunities for the representatives

These opportunities offer valuable international exposure, professional development and engagement with the wider risk-management community.

The victory reflects the zeal and teamwork of the students, along with their thorough preparation, critical thinking, and ability to present practical responses to national challenges before professional judges and an audience. It is a significant milestone for Dominican University and an opportunity to strengthen the institution’s visibility in risk management and applied research.

The University commends Jessica, Calistus, and Jacinta for representing the institution creditably and bringing this honour home.
